Vocab: Symbol

Definition:  A thing that represents or stands for something else.

Example: America is a symbol of freedom

Significant: Symbol make the reader to make a visual and make the poems entertaining.

Vocab: Elegy

Definition: Poems that wrote about someone who past away

Example:



 On September the nineteenth 1586 in London Tower
When the bloom of his young life was decaying like a flower
Dying in the cool winds of the early Fall
In words his tragic life he did recall.



Significant: Elegy show an express sadness and resprect for the lost one.

Vocab: Couplet

Definition: Two lines of verse, usually in the same meter and joined by rhyme, forming a unit.

Examples:

   Martin Luther King was not a king.
He did not have horses, a crown, or anything.
He preached a lot and had a dream
Of everybody eating ice cream.

Significant: Couplet make the poems interesting and easy to read. Also fun as well.

Vocab: Rhyme

Definition: The last syllable which have the same sounds

Example: A bat wearing a basketball cap.

Significant: Ryhme create a song or a music to the poems. Ryhme makes the poems to be entertaining and enjoyable to read.

Vocab: Rhythm

Definition: The rise and fall when you read something to make it outstanding.

Example: Do re mi fa son la si do re mi fa son la si do.

Significant: Ryhthm have an expression and that expression help the poems to be interesting

Vocab: Speaker

Definition: Speaker is when the  poem’s narrator personal expression and feeling are revealed.

Significant: Speakers help the reader to have an emotions or a feelings of the poets. And that will make the reader have a stronger perspective of the poems.

Vocab: Personification

Definition: adding a human actions to a nonhuman.

Examples:
The teapot sang as the water boiled
The ice cubes cackled in their glass
the teacups chattered to one another.
While the chairs were passing gas
The gravy gurgled merrily
As the oil danced in a pan.
Oh my dinnertime chorus
What a lovely, lovely clan!


Significance: personification helps the reader to visual object as a human.

Vocab: Tone

Definition: A quality that depends on pitch, volumn.

Examples: We need to use tone in our Audacity project or else the project would look bad.

Significance: Tone help poems leave a strong emotions for the readers.

Vocab: Interpretation

Definition: A meaning or a symbol of something.

Examples: Red is a symbol of lucky in China

Significance: Interpretation helps us to understand meaning and the symbol better. Is also can helps us to visulize something in our head.

Vocab: Simile

Definition: A comparision that use connected words like: "As or like"

Examples:  
“Twinkle, twinkle little star,How I wonder what you are Up above the world so high,Like a diamond in the sky.”


Significance: Similes are used to decribe things and make the poems can be visulize. While reading simile poems, we can imagine like a lion being a rabbit. Or the moon being a coin in the sky.

Vocab: Extended Metaphor

Definition: Is also a metaphor but they continue further.
Example:
Eve Merriam
The willow is like an etching,
Fine-lined against the sky.
The ginkgo is like a crude sketch,
Hardly worthy to be signed.
The willow’s music is like a soprano,
Delicate and thin.
The ginkgo’s tune is like a chorus
With everyone joining in.

Significance: Extended Metaphor can be use as a strong literary device. The meanings prolongs to life it-self.

Vocab: Metaphor

Definition: is a comparision but do not use connected words like: "as or like"

Examples: Mr. Blake is the heart of the basketball team.

Significance: Metaphor makes the reader to visualize what is happening.
We can also think in a strong perspective if the poems include metaphor.
Usually metaphor include in children books

Vocab: Stanza

Definition: Paragraphs that create a poems.

Examples: I can't find an example Mr. Patrick


Significant: Stanza helps the poems by seperate the ideas. So that we can understand the poems in a clear way.

Vocab: Imagery

Definition: Use of senses so that the reader can have a visual of what going on by using descriptive language


Example:
Let us go then, you and I,
When the evening is spread out against the sky
Like a patient etherised upon a table;
Let us go, through certain half-deserted streets,
The muttering retreats
Of restless nights in one-night cheap hotels
And sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells

Significance: Imagery helps you to visualize and have a better view towards poem.  Imagine an image also helps in create mood and tone which contribute the meaning.

Vocab: Poetry

Definition: is a type of literature that express your feelings through rhythm and style.

Example:    
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Significance: Poetry is not just an ordernary literature. Poetry can also be use to express your feeling, you can always get a feelings after reading a poems
